A Queen For A Day Story

“For five minutes, we were all five year old Cinderellas.” –Linda Oliver
The intended purpose for the “A Queen For a Day Outreach” was to serve hurting women on the Gulf Coast who had been affected by Hurricane Katrina. These women were devastated by the hurricane and the terrible aftermath it left behind. Worn and burdened, they couldn’t seem to find their way out of the pit. Hundreds of volunteers from across the nation and the southeast went to help these people in need. The women were given free makeovers: a new hair style, nails were painted, received new wardrobes, and their makeup was done by celebrity makeup artist Tina Earnshaw-famous for movies such as “Marley and Me”, “Mama Mia” and “Titanic”.
The ladies were then treated to a beautiful banquet. Each woman was escorted to the stage by a service man from the Kessler Air Force Base, and given a rose and a crown. What took place then is hard to describe, but the volunteers stood back and watched as the once broken and burdened women of the Gulf Coast become beautiful, confident daughters of God. A transformation took place, and the women became empowered with life tools to persevere, and to live a successful and beautiful life once again.

In addition to weekly meetings and workshops, we also offer this event to church’s, women’s conferences, and women’s centers. Please contact us if you would like to schedule an event.

 Home Build

Over 300 volunteers from Birmingham and across the nation traveled to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi to build homes for victims of Hurricane Katrina who lost everything. During this time, the volunteers also completed a Baptist church, and local youth from Birmingham finished a local pastor’s office and landscaping as well. In total, 18 houses were built, and 18 families were given a new start!

Book Bag

Over 1,500 book bags packed with school supplies, clothes, and shoes were given to students who were affected by Hurricane Katrina. Cases of school supplies were also given to the local schools destroyed by the hurricane, providing a glimpse of hope in that dark hour.

Youth Concert

Youth from the entire coast of Mississippi joined together in the city of Kiln for a Christian concert by DPB, a regular attending artist of The Basement in Birmingham, Alabama. This was a great time of fellowship and hope for the youth of the Gulf Coast of Mississippi.

Fashion Show Luncheon

Thanks to the Church of the Highlands small group, A Queen for a Day… A Crown for Life, for hosting a fashion and luncheon to support Hope For a Nation! Tina Earnshaw, celebrity makeup artist, flew in from London to join us once again, and the models received a “queen’s touch” to their makeup. Nearly one hundred ladies from the Lovelady Center were treated to a royal luncheon, and they lined up to share their stories and thanks for a day of hope!
